Saturday Showdown- Jafar V Meleficent

Saturday Showdown
This is one that has been on my mind for a while and recently I re-watched Sleeping Beauty and had a bit of insight into the film refreshed. So today I present:
Maleficent V. Jafar!
Maleficent:
First Appearance: Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (I can’t find any earlier rendition of the story where she does appear)
Powers: mistress of all evil (according to her own words). Powers are definitely of a supernatural origin.

Jafar:
First Appearance: 1001 nights I suppose.
Powers: “most powerful sorcerer in the world” at that time at least. Power originates from cosmic energies emitted through the genie.

The Battle:
An ebony raven flew with hast towards an ominous castle in the distance. The castle itself was separated from the rest of the world by a large cliff. Within the inner court of the castle sat Maleficent. Her long flowing black and purple train surrounded the floor around her throne as she messaged her head. It’s hard for the mistress of all evil to find soldiers that match her own intentions.
The raven perched itself on the edge of the armrest of the throne. A few ‘caws’ and the message was clear.

“Really? A sorcerer to rival myself. Surely there must be some mistake.” Maleficent began stroking her pet slowly along its back. “No one is as powerful as me. I suppose I will have to simply go over there and put this mage back in his proper place.”
The evil sorceress stood from her throne. A quick wave of her hand and her magic staff materialized in front of her hands.

“By the powers of the evil one from afar, send me off to the place known as Agrabah!” lightning clashed. A mighty wind filled the chambers of the hall as Maleficent slowly disappeared into the empty air.
Agrabah. Jafar has finally achieved everything in life that he ever wanted, except the girl of course, but that is small potatoes at this point. Besides, the girl, Jasmine, was already feeding him grapes. He won. Jafar had conquered. That’s when all the windows and doors flung open. A cold and damp wind blew the flags, gold, and furniture around in a swirling tornado that suddenly stopped. There in the middle of the room was Maleficent.

“What is the meaning of this?” shouted Jafar. The Sultan and Jasmine ran from the room. Jafar could summon them back anytime anyway.
“So. You are the Jafar that I keep hearing things about. I must say I’m rather disappointed. I was hoping for something a little more impressive of the supposed ‘greatest sorcerer in the world’” teased Maleficent.

“You dare to insult me?” shouted Jafar once more. He reached for his magic staff. The battle was on.
Bolts of purple and red lightning were flung across the room at super speed, punching holes and knocking over pillars, nearly destroying the palace. Both the raven and Iago at his point have turned into ty beanie babies and the colors of the once magnificent palace had turned dark and deathly.
“I didn’t think this fight could be so dull.” Mentioned Jafar. The sun went out. The palace was pitch black. A murderous chuckle was heard throughout the halls as an eerie lime-green light grew where maleficent once stood. A mighty dragon now stood in her spot.

“A lizard huh? Two people can play at that game…” Jafar banged his staff on the ground in front of him. The snake shaped weapon molded itself around Jafar as he grew into a monstrous snake.
The dragon slashed. The snake lunged. Both giant creatures switched back and forth over who had the upper hand.

“You fool! Do you not realize your strength is finite to this world only? While mine is eternal!” Maleficent in her dragon form grew to outsize the palace. Green flames engulfed the city below leaving Jafar alone as a snake in a garden.

“Genie! I desire to make my 3rd wish. I wish to be an all-powerful genie!”
A beam of magic came from Jamar’s enslaved genie causing Jafar to grow in size, staring down Maleficent at eye level, and then sinking down and down into a black lamp on the ground. Maleficent dragon shrunk down too into her human form. She picked up the lamp, laughed maniacally and disappeared back to her castle

Conclusion:
While we don’t see either one outdo the other in the movies, Maleficent does mention that her power is that of eternity and supernatural sources while Jafar is bound to this world. Also I noticed that Jafar has a lot more personal pride and greed issues while Maleficent is just a revenge stricken villain. The winner is Maleficent.

Agree? Disagree? Let’s talk about it in the comments below and don’t forget to share this article with someone who wishes that Disney went forward with their plans for a “Villains” theme park.

Review: Suicide Squad

So, same deal as my review of Batman V Superman. I will go over the things that worked, the things that didn’t work, the characters and explain who I think the intended audience was. Sew let’s get to it!
Spoilers from this point forward.

Good points:
Despite what the critics have been saying I like to think that the story was relatively uncomplicated and complete. Nothing crazy or extreme happened story wise. It was just a simple redemption type story for a bunch of supervillains. Actually not too bad of a story. The trick was trying to get all of the characters an appropriate amount of time to shine. This movie, like so many other team type movies, didn’t’ try to focus on all the characters but just seemed to focus on specifically Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and Rick Flagg.

The action was well choreographed and set up. I was entertained by it at least. Nothing says comic books like a bunch of Zombies fighting a giant human crocodile.

Bad points:
The movie was all action. The buildup to the main mission that the group goes on was pretty much all fighting and the finale ended with things blowing up. I enjoy a good action movie myself, but when action is all you have it gets boring. The best action movies space out the action parts with slower moments. Granted there were a couple like in the bar and such, but those moments were so far and few between and too short to really make a huge difference in the overall feel of the movie.

The characters.
Deadshot: definitely the most well rounded character in the film. He had a real reason to continue fighting, his relationship with Flagg was well fleshed out, definitely my favorite character.

Harley Quinn: the second main protagonist. I disagree with some that say she stole the show. While DC knows that Harley makes money and so they fronted her pretty heavily, yet I didn’t feel like she overshadowed Deadshot or Flagg. Her involvement was appropriate for the events of the movie

The Joker: probably the most anticipated of the bunch. While Leto’s performance was definitely different than ledger but that’s appropriate. Ledger was not the comic book joker. Ledger was nothing we have seen before. Leto is a joker that we have seen. I found it interesting that in this version the Joker does seem to have legitimate feelings for Harley which is quite a bit different than both the animated series and the comic books. It’s a nice change. We should keep it that way. I hear that there was a lot more than a half hour that was cut from this film so maybe we will see a bit more that can help put some critics at ease about Leto’s performance.

In Conclusion:
For all it was, original was what this film wasn’t. I felt like I was watching a dark and twisted version of Guardians of the Galaxy. Particularly with the soundtrack choice calling me back to “Awesome Mix Vol. 1”. The beginning didn’t feel like the end and there was what seemed like very low consistency in the flow of the film. I do have to appreciate DC for doing their own thing but maybe they are trying to be too dark?

Who should see this movie?
Do you shop for your wardrobe at Hot Topic? This is for you. This movie is NOT appropriate for kids with scenes of torture and an almost endless stream of swearing. I would recommend this ONLY if you are maybe older than 16 and if you REALLY like DC. Those who would enjoy this movie would be those who LOVE supernatural, love zombies, and like Arrow and it’s version of the Suicide Squad.

Anyway that’s what I have on the film. Have you seen it? What did you think? Let’s talk about it in the comments!

Saturday Showdown: Aquaman V. Triton

Saturday Showdown
This battle was a suggestion from one of you guys! feel free to send me suggestions and we will see how it will work it'self out!

Aquaman V. King Triton
Both masters of the sea. One king of Atlantica and the other king of Atlantis. Who really rules the earth’s oceans?

Aquaman:
Born of a sea dwelling father and an earth dwelling mother. Arthur Curry grew to understand the sea and the life within. Arthur was commissioned by his father to take over the throne of Atlantis and has since ruled there. While his biggest beef seems to be humans beginning to poison the water supply; he will still fight for the safety of the planet as a whole with the Justice League.
Also: I hear he can talk to fish.
King Triton
Ruler over the city of Atlantica and all of its mer-people. His power derives from his magic trident which can control elements as well as shoot plasma light beams that destroy any target in his path.

The battle:
A royal guard runs through the corridors of Atlantis. His footsteps echoed through the hallway as he franticly charged through the sentries and into the royal throne room of Aqua man’s court.
“My Lord! I have an urgent message from the Caspian sea!”
The guard handed Aquaman the report. An uprising has been organized by King Triton of Atlantica.
“Call together the brigade. We will take the battle to them before they can take it to us.”
Aquaman grabbed his armor and his trident. War has broken out.

As the fleet of Atlantica soldiers advanced towards the city of Atlantica they were met with resistance from the merpeople there that claim that sector of the sea as their home. The battle was fierce. A stale mate was carrying on outside as a small band of atlantians infiltrated the castle of king triton. Carefully they swam across the corridors and the hallways of Atlantica castle to the throne room of King Triton. 6 sentries put up a fight leaving Arthur as the last standing. He goes through the door.
King Triton moved from his throne. He readied his trident. Both kings advance.

Triton used every move he had acquired. Being a decedent of Poseidon, King Triton has learned nearly every form of combat that the sea had to offer. Being part fish also helped with his speed and maneuverability under water, an area where Aquaman has yet to master due to his human side. Tridents crashed, sending beams of light in all directions. Triton used his fish tail to smack Aquaman across the room.

“Surrender now. You Halfling are no match for my full power under the sea.”
“I seriously doubt it.”

At that instant several shark’s crash into the castle gnashing their teeth at King Triton. That momentary distraction was exactly what Aquaman needed to strike back. A swift slash came at Aquaman’s face knocking him down. A couple mage blasts from Triton took care of the sharks.
Aquaman found his neck caught between two prongs of King Triton’s trident.
“You shouldn’t mess with the king of the sea.”

Winner: King Triton!
