I Built A Robot
By Taylor Campbell
I built a robot, oh look at me.
I built a robot great golly gee!
A no. 10 can and some extra paint
A robot to please, a robot to amaze
I built a robot, my mom is pleased
I built a robot. The day is seized.
Built with 10 year old ingenuity
Loaded with pride. And special features
A toy car underneath so it can move
It’s only taped, easy to remove.
But sounds, now that was a hard one
The problem was solved. Taped on my i-pod.
I built a robot. Took it to school
My teacher was puzzled. My friends thought “cool”
Didn’t win ribbons, or medals or stickers
It was too simple. It wasn’t too big.
I built a robot, no honor to his name
I built a robot, without praise or fame
I kept him. he was mine
He carried my lunch, my markers and crayons
I built a robot. He stayed here.
Science fair, filled with hope and fear
Nothing to say. We didn’t win.
My robot didn’t seem to notice. He stayed with me.
I built a robot. He sat on the shelf
No one else saw. I kept him to myself
On a bad day I saw him up there
I could do good things. The robot was one
I built a robot, with love and with care.
I built a robot, and the memories to share.
He’s quite simple, it’s not too big.
I built a robot. The robot built me.
