News that I am very stoked about is that the 2 episodes of
the Supergirl season 2 premiere will feature Superman in an actual not-just-boots-on-a-table
roll!
Now this brings up several questions and theories as to what
may end up happening in this next season of Supergirl. Let’s look into some of
mine:
How This Could Work
A great story involving Superman and Supergirl with a villian worthy to fight them both. another good direction could be Geoff Johns "Superman: Brainiac" |
H’el on Earth: the first 2 episodes?
At the end of the season finale’ of Supergirl, a rocket lands
on earth. Supergirl and The Martian Manhunter investigate and observe that the
rocket is indeed Kryptonian. Kara looks into the rocket with both shock and
disbelief. If Superman is indeed a new character for these two episodes, the
best storyline that I can think of that would not detract from Kara while
giving Clark a proper introduction would be H’el on Earth.
The story involves an adopted member of the house of El who
was a test pilot on krypton for the rocket that eventually sent off Clark and
Kara. H’el lands on Earth and tries to enlist Clark and Kara into his cause to
bring back krypton through some time travel vortex stuff. Kara joins into the
cause while Clark gathers a justice league (legends of tomorrow? Arrow? Flash?)
To save Kara and stop H’el’s world engine.
Legion of Superheroes
The Legion was revealed earlier in the season. |
The legion of Superheroes has been a good chunk of the
Superman mythos since its creation during the silver age of comics. In season
one it was confirmed that Superman has worked with the legion in the past. Were
Superman to become a regular character, we could put Kara into the future with
the legion and keep Superman on earth stuff. Leading into my next thought/
theory:
Superman Spinoff Series:
Superman usually does well in both mediums, but he has had his biggest successes not in movies, but in T.V. . His animated adventures also do pretty well. |
Warner Brother’s success with Superman in the cinematic universe
has been a bit less critically successful than in the past. With this multi-billion
dollar character flying around with no real direction, putting him in the
CW-verse could really be a good move for him. We already have an established
universe that people like and that gets great critical acclaim from nearly
everyone. Superman could really thrive in a universe like this, restoring his
spot as a large financial plus in warner brother’s war against the Star Wars
and Marvel machine. (Selfish plug, I have some great ideas for a Superman
series. Warner Brothers may contact me whenever and I can give some thoughts on
how it could work).
Who will play Superman?
They have not yet cast an actor to play Superman, but I have
my thoughts on it.
Don't they just look like they were meant to be working together? |
My number one choice would be Henry Cavill who currently
plays Superman in the movies. The poor guy is not getting too much love for his
phenomenal job as the Man of Steel in movies, so if we had him get another shot
at the role in the show… maybe he could really show off the great stuff he can
do for the character. Plus, he is already in Superman shape so prep work would
be very simple.
My second choice would be a no name actor. In the tradition
of Christopher Reeve, a no name actor would be able to enhance the role of
Superman while not taking away from the image with his own identity. I would
look towards Broadway for some great actors that could do the roll. Plus, if we
get another singer in a superhero suit we can nail home my theory that
Superheroes are required to be great singers.
My third choice would be Brandon Routh. He is currently
playing the Atom on Legends of Tomorrow, but his short time in the suit was
great. His acting brought life to an otherwise dead script, and I say he
deserves another shot at the part. Besides, if Supergirl is on a different
earth than Legends, it would not be strange.
Ways this could go wrong:
Casting Tom Welling.
The guy is great, but the direction
that Supergirl has been going has not been the same direction that Smallville
was heading. Casting Tom Welling to reprise his role as Clark Kent on T.V.
would take away from that direction and probably push back the story, causing a
few episodes of ground recovering.
Weakening him to make Supergirl look good.
A theme from
Supergirl has been that she can do anything that Superman can. Honestly that is
false, I would like to cite “The Death of Superman” as my reference of a time
when Superman had to be better than Supergirl. Fact of life. If we weaken
Superman to where the experienced and veteran superhero has to be saved by the novice
that will only serve to weaken Superman’s fandom even more than he is now. That’s
why I say H’el on earth could be a good direction for the show to go in because
there is no way that Superman can look bad and Kara look insignificant in that
storyline.
I am Super-stoked for the Super-return of Superman! I have
been aching for him to appear all last season of Supergirl and now my wish has
come true. J I’m
a happy camper. Let’s see if I stay that way when Supergirl, and more
importantly, Superman Returns.
Supergirl has moved over to the CW and will air Monday nights
this upcoming fall.
