Analysis on the Justice League Teaser Trailer
Let’s hit this up second by second and let’s see what we
observe. I will bookmark specific points in the trailer and annotate the scene that is happening. a lot of this is my personal opinion along with some thoughts on overall story telling.
and awAAAAAAAY we go!
0:04: Bruce’s back is turned to a group of people. At 0:11
we see an old fisherman figure looking at him. The monologue may be at a
different spot in the movie so we might be able to assume that the man is not
listening specifically to Bruce, but it’s hard to tell the exact situation
here.
0:19: Bruce has a beard. How long has he been searching out Aquaman?
Later we see him give a status report to Wonder Woman concerning Aquaman and he
is fully shaved so I think it’s safe to say that Bruce prefers to be shaved.
0:28: first the music is more different than what we have
seen even in the suicide squad trailers. We still have a kind of rock theme
going on which is nice, confirming a shared universe feeling and such. It also
seems like we are looking at a distant past (middle ages) burring a mother box.
Are we going to get more movies based in the distant past? I know Wonder Woman
takes place during WW1 and that she herself is thousands of years old, but what
about things like Jonah Hex or Legends of Tomorrow? Legion of Superheroes? Are we
getting more set up with this justice league movie or are we finally going to
get to the individual stories?
0:34: Wonder Woman. Always nice. The lettering on the shield
is a lot more noticeable. I also see that the colors are a bit less diluted so
far.
0:37: Aquaman. Yes. Is he able to control water now or what
exactly is going on here?
0:43: we are obviously going to get a lot of background
stuff taken care of. How do I know this? This is pre-cyborg cyborg. Looks like
we are going to get a bit of storyline off him. Honestly we are probably going
to need very little background in this film. We know Batman. We know Superman
(who is amazingly absent in this trailer). We are getting a movie for Wonder
Woman next year, The Flash is super popular right now so I think this movie
could get away with only explaining Aquaman and cyborg.
0:52: Cisco? Is that you? In this universe Cisco has become
The Flash! Not really. Flash is likely to be the lightest of the characters in
this movie (as he was in the cartoon) so it makes sense that he would be the
one with the jokes. Still, he speaks like Cisco does in the CW show.
1:04: The fans spoke and Snider listened. This trailer is
jam packed with jokes and is actually very fun. Hopefully we retain the
seriousness that came with the last two movies though because that was
something I really appreciated. Pete Docter of Pixar said that every movie,
even short film, should make you laugh, cry, cheer and boo. Looks like more
laughing and cheering, which automatically makes crying and booing more
emotionally gripping.
1:19: the special effects on the flash look pretty good in
this scene. You can tell they are really trying to sell the audience on The Flash
since there is a good amount of people who argue that the casting was already
done perfectly on the show. I remember the reasoning was that Zach Snyder didn’t’
believe that Grant Gustin was right for the universe he was trying to build. So
far that seems false. I personally think the casting is fine for this movie
though seeing as we want to separate the movies from the Arrowverse. That’s my
take.
1:49: Ladies and gentlemen, Cisco Ramone of CW!
2:00: so many more jokes. So many.
2:11: bat suit upgrade? It looks more rubbery- like
Christian Bale. We see the other suit later but I really hope we stick with the
BVS suit. It felt more natural like Batman should have.
2:13: back to the really cool bracelet explosion thing. Is
Wonder Woman OP’ed? That’s for wiser men to contemplate I guess.
2:16: a good look at the Flash suit. The colors are a bit
brighter than everyone else’s, also a lot more tech-looking than T.V. flash. So….
Who made the suit? Does it fit in a ring? I need answers! They are really
teasing me with the flash here.
2:35: more jokes. I like this one though. Nice nod to the
fans. Aquaman is rather awesome and can carry his own weight, but for some
reason people only remember him as the guy who speaks to fish. You know what
that means? 75% of the earth is his army. But yeah, talking to fish sounds lame
when you’re just saying it like that.
Overall thoughts:
I like the trailer. It’s showing the direction that the DCEU
is planning on taking and it’s a nice one. Superman is absent but if he wasn’t
then his return would be spoiled. I bet he will only show up at the very end of
the movie and we go right into Justice League 2.
The Flash is going to be a big point of criticism for this
film simply because Grant Gustin has nailed the part so far. Another flash
could potentially divide the fan base pretty badly. Like I said in my
commentary, this flash feels like I’m watching Cisco from the TV show. I will withhold
saying if that is good or bad until I see the movie.
How much of this will be set up? The MCU had an advantage
where all the characters in Avengers were introduced already and we could get
right into the action near the beginning of the movie. It looks like we won’t
be able to have that in this film. Hopefully the intros are fast.
What did you think? What are some things you hope to see in
this movie? Let me know in the comments section.
