San Diego Comic Con is in full swing and news is flooding
in all over the place as to what cool and neat things are happening. Big changes
are coming with DC rebirth, Marvel Now, Wonder Woman’s 75th, news on
the upcoming Marvel films and such, so today we are going to pit the two more
spotlighted characters against each other (who as far as I can tell have never
met).
Wonder Woman V. Doctor Strange
Welcome to the Saturday Showdown
Real Name: Diana Prince (sort of real name I guess)
Base of operations: New York, Washington DC, Themyscira, etc.
Powers: super strength, trained in nearly all weapons, magic
unbreakable lasso of truth, Amazonian armor.
Bio: formed from the clay on the beaches of Paradise Island
and given the gift of life from Zeus’ thunderbolt, Diana began her warrior
training almost immediately. After several thousands of years a man named Steve
Trevor crashed his plane onto Themyscira. Wonder Woman started to question the
reality of equality pointing out that a world respecting only women was just as
bad as a world only respecting men. Diana, now dubbed Wonder Woman, traveled to
the United States as embassy for the Amazons and as a fighter for equality among
all nations, races and genders.
Doctor Strange:
Real Name: Dr. Stephen Victor Strange
Powers: master of black magic, voodoo, ancient artifacts and
all things pertaining to the occult. He’s also a medical doctor.
Bio: a car accident destroyed Dr. Strange’s hands forcing
this respected surgeon to give up his practice. Being too proud to teach, Dr.
Strange began searching all over the globe for a surgeon that could save his
hands. He found no one and ended up having to make his ends meet through
underground medical practices. After meeting an old hermit dubbed “The Ancient
One” the good doctor began to learn everything he could about Dormonu and the
mystic arts. Now as doctor strange he fights solely to keep earth safe from the
mystical powers that lie just beyond.
The battle:
In the quiet of his mystically shielded home, Dr. Strange
frantically searched every book in his mansion. The earth was endangered from
the white sirens. In ancient times, sirens were simply mischievous characters
concerned with tormenting sailors and the like. The last recorded appearance of
the sirens was in the time of King Arthur. His queen- Guinevere- banished them
with the sword of Achilles. When the fight was over, Arthur disposed of the
sword by taking it back to mount Olympus. Doctor Strange did not know the rest
of the story but he knew the sirens could only be stopped by one who wielded the
sword.
There was no one who knew for sure where the sword was, but
there was a rumor that an island in the Bermuda triangle might contain it…
Doctor Strange performed a transportation spell that sent
him to this island. Themyscira- the island of the Amazon warriors. It was night
on the island and the teleport sent him just behind the honor guard. The sword
will be his.
Achilles was to be the son of one of the gods, except a
prophesy said that the Achilles would eventually out-rule the father. As such Achilles
was given to a guy named Peleus and his mother was a sea-nymph. That would make
his sword more likely in the temple of Poseidon. Dr. Strange’s footsteps echoed
through the granite building as he walked through the temple of Poseidon,
admiring the different relics on the walls. Buried among some of the more
impressive relics was the sword in question. A sword with such a history should
have a higher place of honor.” Thought strange. As he grabbed the sword an
alarm sounded across the island. Strange held his amulet in his hand and began
to recite the teleportation spell when an arrow hit the jewel squarely in the
center, sending the amulet across the floor.
“Halt thief or taste my fury upon my blade!” shouted an
amazon at the door of the temple. Strange recognized the heroine as Wonder
Woman, famed member of the Justice League and embassy of this island to the
United States. Why she didn’t choose a country that respected the ancient
pantheon more is beyond Dr. Strange’s comprehension.
Before Strange could think Wonder Woman was holding a blade
up against his throat.
“Speak now, while you still can.”
“eargo moranu”
The sword that wonder woman was holding just turned into a
serpent. Dr. Strange started running for the door when a spear caught the end
of his cloak. Wonder Woman grabbed several weapons off the walls and charged
towards the doctor.
Doctor strange thought frantically what to do. He had heard
of an instance that almost killed Wonder Woman a while back… with a few more
magic words, Strange began to multiply in the room.
“You are quite the accomplished warrior Wonder Woman. I can
respect that, but no one can fight all of me!” the clones started a stampede
against Wonder Woman. Each time she cut one of the clones it split in two. The battle
toiled for what felt like ages. As Wonder Woman was distracted, Dr. Strange
exited the building. Weakened by the fight and the amount of magic it took out
of him, Dr. Strange tripped on one of the stairs. All the clones disappeared and
Diana made a run for the magician.
“You forget. You merely read about the hydra. I was there. The
more heads, the less efficient it was. You sir, have just lost.”
“Not quite…” the spirit of Dr. Strange then jumped out of
his body and flew towards the nearby colosseum. The spirit released all of the
animals into the streets. The amazons fought to keep them at bay and they were
succeeding. The distraction was sufficient though. The spirit of Strange
entered back into his body. With a few more magic words strange was back in his
mansion.
The sword was lost to the amazon. She succeeded in
protecting her home. Now hopefully earth will succeed in being protected
against the oncoming sirens…
Winner: Wonder Woman
