Spending Valentines Day as a Single

Every year it seems that I meet more and more people who consider Valentine’s Day to no longer be a day to show caring feelings but as a day to sit at home and feel sorry for themselves in observance of “Singles Awareness Day”.

Thing is, it is a day that (though it might not be trying to) annunciates your marital/ dating status simply by trying to celebrate being a couple. This hurts sometimes and I have spent a lot of years complaining about it and giving up on all love for a single day because of self-pity, and I know I’m not the only one who does this.

Honestly, we can’t say that is healthy. No one needs to spend a full day where they just feel sorry for themselves and so I have taken it upon me to compile a list of things you can do to set Valentine’s Day apart and make it special even if you are single.

  Take yourself on a date.

Everyone needs to feel loved and wanted, and everyone needs to feel that way towards themselves.
A lot of places hold specials and discounts for Valentine’s Day and I will have you know that there is no shame in attending a movie or eating out by yourself. Treat yourself to something you would like to get you out of the house and maybe you just might meet some people while you are at it.

 Get some friends together.

I feel like most people I talk to have a situation where they think they are all alone on Valentine’s Day when really there are a lot more of us singles than you would think. Instead of trying to do a full on date, maybe try getting some friends together for pizza or something.

This was a project I did back in Middle school. It probably
wouldn't work now... too oldschool.

 Give out Valentines to everyone

Remember Elementary school when you had the box full of valentines and candy from everyone in the class? Who says that has to stop? This year for Valentine’s Day I am giving a valentine to every girl that I know. Try it out for yourself! You’ll make someone’s day a little bit less lonely and feel like
a stud.

 Volunteer your time

What better way to show your love than to volunteer your time. Homeless shelters, food kitchens, food banks and hospitals are all great places where you could just walk in without much notice and share your time with those who are less fortunate.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be a miserable experience. There is a way to celebrate it and make the day special despite what your relationship status may be. The most important thing anyone can do is make sure each day is lived to the fullest. Valentine’s Day is a day set apart to show love. Why don’t we do that?

Thank you for spreading the love and liking/ sharing this article. What are some plans that you have for Valentines Day? Leave a comment and be sure to always be your best self.
