Woody's Origin Part 2: Enter Andy Davis

Previously:

Chapter 2:

Woody cut through the forest with his machete. The thick stalks of bamboo seemed to have been growing there for at least 200 years. Out of nowhere, a giant crocodile ripped out of the boggy underbrush. Woody wrestled with the crocodile, twisting and turning to avoid its strong jaws. Giant scissor like teeth reached down for woody but he grabbed the gums of the gator. Woody struggled to hold the giant reptile at bay. His strength was failing. This could be it…

The nun walked into the playroom and rang a small hand-held bell in her hands.

“Ok kids, time to go outside” said the nun pleasantly. All the kids lined up in front of the sister, all except Andy Davis.

“Andrew? Andrew Davis!” shouted the nun, trying to get the attention of the distracted young boy. Andy turned in a start to the nun. Quickly he saw the line and ran to join up in it.

“Andrew, I think we are going to have to have a talk about this later”

“yes Sister pickles.” Said Andy. The other kids chuckled, but not too loudly.

“Sister Pickineli, but I don’t expect you to get it right.” Said the nun, only slightly losing her calm demeanor. The kids marched out of the playroom and shut the door behind them.

Woody had to admit that Lotso's Daycare was great
because it has all the efficiency that Woody tried to
establish in the daycare and in Andy's room. Lotso had
accomplished a type of utopia that Woody could only
dream of organizing. That is, until he learned the truth
behind Sunnyside.
“Wow, that was a great job Albert! I’m not sure if I’d get out of that one” complimented Woody. The plastic alligator rolled off Woody allowing him to stand.

“Thanks Woody, but you and I both know that Andy there would have found a way to get you out of it.” Replied Albert.

“Yeah…But he didn’t!” said Woody. He high-fived Albert and went around the playroom making his rounds. Each toy was doing fine. Occasionally there was a problem or two but through teamwork the rest of the group was able to fix it. Either a missing part or battery, nothing was too big for Sheriff Woody and the toys at the daycare.

Every day though, Woody was never able to get more than a sentence with Dave. Over the course of the 2 years or so that he has been at the daycare, Woody was able to turn attitudes around a bit. What was once a dismal and unwelcoming environment had become a relatively good place to be? Or at least a positive one. Dan was another one who’s attitude changed, and unfortunately, it was not the best kind.

Dave sat underneath the shelves in his default smiling-face toy mode. He lay motionless as Woody found him.

“Dave?... Dave, the kids are gone now. You can come out.” invited Woody. Dave stayed still in his toy state. Woody reached forward to touch his arm and Woody’s hand was quickly slapped away.
“STAY AWAY FROM ME!” shouted Dave. Dave got up on all fours and charged at Woody chasing him out from under the shelving. Once Woody got out, Dave slowly sunk back into the darkness.
Woody stared in slight terror into the darkness, struggling to catch his breath. The other toys around the room had started to stare at the sheriff, puzzled as to the incident. Woody stood up, brushing the dust bunnies off his jeans.

We don't know if Woody is good at checkers,
but it is his favorite game and I'm sure his
early adventures spurred his love for the game.
“So jerry, ya know, I’m still looking for that rematch in checkers. I know I’m going to beat you this time.”

Several minutes passed. The bell rang and the kids came right back inside. All the toys went back to their previous locations and waited for the kids to resume play. Everyone came back inside, except for Andrew Davis. Woody quickly scanned the room to see two parent type silhouettes in the window of the door. Outside. Dave reached from under the shelves and grabbed Woody pulling him under the shelves. A hand reached up to shush Woody.

“The kid didn’t come back in. didn’t he?”

Woody shook in terror. This toy had threatened him pretty bad today. It scared the stuffing out of him, but something in Dave’s firm stare kept Woody from completely losing his mind.

“Not that I can tell…”

“Didn’t think so. You’re in trouble now Sheriff.”

Dave pushed Woody back onto the floor. He stared at the ceiling as he wondered what exactly happened and where was Andy. The door opened and Andy came back into the room. A tear was rolling down Andy’s cheek. Andy picked up Woody and sat in the corner. Tears were streaming down his face fully now. Woody could only wonder what was wrong.
