Saturday Showdown: Mario V. Kirito Conclusion

The Fight

The match started. Immediately a torrent of Fireballs careened at Kirito. These fireballs were firing at anything faster than Kirito has ever seen before. He dodged each fireball, barely being signed by the last one. Kirito’s focus was dominated by the barrage of fireballs.

The last fireball seemed more direct than the last several. Kirito put his swords up and sliced the fireballs in half, revealing a large, brown, cartoon boot on a direct course to his face.

The force of Mario’s kick pushed Kirito back to the end of the arena. He looked at Mario and saw his percentage was sitting at a very healthy 3%, while Kirito’s own percentage rose to 15%. That small moment of rest on Kirito’s part was a mistake. Several Up-smashes and Kirito was sitting on a spinning wheel of death from Mario. An up-smash on Kirito’s part allowed a narrow escape on the upper ledge of the arena.

Kirito got contemplative. He remembered the hours he spent on smash brothers as a kid. He hasn’t played a video game with buttons on it since he was five. What does up-smash even mean without buttons to press? Is there such a thing? were his moves limited? This contemplated though the process was disrupted by 8- hit combo from Mario.

Agil's shop has always been a central hang-out hub for the group.
he even set up an inn in the upper floor that he loans out to
the group.
Kirito’s friends watched the fight from the comfort of the back room of Agil’s store.

“I don’t get it! I know Kirito can fight better than this!” shouted Klein.

The rest of the group had to agree. Kirito was not bringing his a-game

“I kind of expected this might happen.” Chimed Yui. “Daddy’s Endorphins are always higher when in combat within a game than almost any other time during gameplay and I imagine that his Endorphin levels are higher in game than IRL. Engaging in combat within a game that Daddy grew up on is likely filling his systems with an influx of hormones that is making it hard for him to concentrate on anything other than the fact that he is in the same room as Mario”.

Sometimes, Asuna forgets her adopted daughter is actually a phsychological balance monitoring program.
The battle between Kirito and Mario raged on. Kirito was successful in landing a 16 hit combo that resulted in a mini smash that sent Mario outside of the  blue “screen boundary” line. A few more feet further and Mario would have been out of the game and into the red “KO” zone.

Mario landed with a down-smash that Kirito was only barely able to block with the energy shield he was given. He and Mario traded blows back and forth for a while until Mario was able to grab Kirito. He was punched a few times and then Mario started into the spin.

Kirito’s group all but stopped watching at this point. Some were playing cards, Asuna was with Agil in the kitchen making some snacks, the TV was almost background noise at this point. That is, until a large “crash” was heard through the surround sound set up. The team looked up from their respective activity to see Kirito plastered across the screen. A weak “ow” escaped Kirito’s lips as he peeled off the screen entirely.

“KO! Mario Wins!” shouted the announcer. The live feed was cancelled.

Explaination:

It's OK, though! he has a cute girlfriend.
Kirito quite often gets distracted from what he is doing by the fact that he is inside a video game. His distraction gets worse when he is starting a new game or a DLC unless he has a specific goal in mind other than to enjoy the game. In Alpheim Online, Kirito was able to pick up the game pretty quickly and breeze past it simply because he felt a need to save Asuna. In Gungale Online, he was commissioned by the government to investigate real-world murders of players. Games like “Lost Song” though were added to Kirito’s playlist initially because it would be fun to play them.

Being a hard core gamer, Kirito likely built himself up on Mario games to start with. Meeting a gaming icon like Mario would likely take a toll on Kirito’s psyche.
